In keeping with the seeming trend among manufacturers of offering a car for every possible niche, Renault now does an estate version of its Clio supermini.
It certainly boosts the practicality of the little car, with boot space up from 288 litres to 439 with the seats in place. Seats down and it’s up nearly 250 litres on the hatchback at 1277 litres. The extra space obviously brings a price boost, but at less than £800, it isn’t astronomical. Ownership of an estate car is made positively reasonable with a £13,825 P11D and a cost of 33.4p per mile.
The 86PS 1.5-litre engine is by no means powerful, and the Clio feels slow at times. But the low-end pull of the diesel will help it when it comes to carrying the extra weight you can pile into all that increased boot space.
