The start point for the best source of fleet information

Audi A4 Avant 3.0 TDI SE

Date: 16 August 2006

£30,370

What's new

Audi's fleet conquering A4 Avant now has a range topping diesel, giving the brand a rival to the BMW 330d Touring. We drove it in automatic form, which accounts for £1400 of the price.

Excellent

Image and build quality are first rate. Audi is now the equal of BMW on this front.

Good

Power and economy are good with the 233PS 3.0-litre TDI providing a 0-62mph time of 7.5secs and a 33.6mpg average.

Average

The £30,370 price is high given that metallic paint, rear parking sensors and a few other items you'd hope were standard are in fact options.

Poor

The driving experience is hindered by a clunky automatic gearbox and the CO2 output drops the car into the highest 35% tax band.

Verdict

Misses out on that special range-topping special feel that chief rival the BMW 330d possesses in spade fulls.
