Skoda Roomster 2 1.4: One Minute Test

Date: 13 November 2006   |   Author:

Category: Supermini-MPV
Price range: £10,505-£14,050
Key rival: Vauxhall Meriva

What's new: Skoda's fourth model range is the new Roomster, a supermini-MPV aimed at the budget family wagon market of vehicles like the Vauxhall Meriva, Citroen Berlingo and Renault Kangoo.

Excellent: Despite the £11,317 P11D being at best on par with most rivals, excellent depreciation figures mean a cost per mile of 22.8p.

Good: The 1.4 engine is a peach, offering decent performance and a sweet exhaust note to boot. Interior plastics are decent quality for this price, as is the fit and finish.

Average: Interior flexibility doesn't move the game on from what Renault has been doing for years in this sector. The styling has its fans and detractors - the original concept was prettier.

Poor: The less well-educated buyers will still turn their noses up at the badge, despite the Roomster arguably being the best option in this sector.

Verdict: Excellent addition to the sector and hard not to recommend.
