The start point for the best source of fleet information

Daihatsu Terios 1.5 SX: One Minute Test Drive

Date: 15 May 2007   |   Author: John Mahoney

Category: Small 4x4
Prices: £12,995-£14,995
Key Rival: Fiat Sedici

What's new: What isn't? The cheeky pint-sized 4x4 is back and all-new. Think of it as a shrunken 'proper' 4x4 with an equally diminutive all-paw running cost of 28.7ppm and a 34.9mpg combined fuel consumption.

Excellent: Looks - people love it even with the tide of anti-4x4 sentiment. The all-time 4x4 and elevated ride height provide for not only some genuine off-road ability but great visibility too.

Good: Incredibly, the 105PS 1.5-litre feels like it should belong in a GTi - it's loud and unrefined but shifts the Terios along at an alarming rate.

Average: Feels cheap inside, the ride's not up to much and at speed the steering feels disconnected while at motorway speed the Terios wanders.

Poor: Handling's awful, and that jacked-up body adds plenty of lean. Our car suffered from understeer and had a sloppy gearchange too.

Verdict: Stylish, strangely endearing 4x4 is full of character but ultimately a poor car.
