Peugeot Expert Combi: First Drive

Driving the Expert Combi minibus was a surprisingly enlightening experience - that's a dramatic statement bearing in mind we're talking about the minibus version of a humble van.

To set the scene, our first Combi drive took place following two days driving one of Peugeot's car range, and over the very same demanding country roads, the minibus was impressive.

Thanks to the torquey 120PS 2.0-litre diesel, the long-wheelbase version made little work of the inclines. But more impressive was the way the Combi rode. Nothing unnerved or unsettled the van and it displayed fine damping with a cosseting softly sprung ride. Through the turns the Expert had more grip than expected, too, while offering near large MPV-like levels of refinement and squeak- and creak-free drive.

The Combi will also be offered with car-like options list including pneumatic rear suspension, Bluetooth, parking sensors, satnav, and auto lamps and wipers. However, instead of sliding away into the floor, the bulky seats must be removed for boot space. Despite that, for businesses in need of a shuttle bus, the new Expert is a worthy rival to well-established competition.
