Audi TTS coupe: Test Drive

Date: 02 June 2008

Category: Sports
Prices: £25,210-£35,390
Key rival: BMW Z4

As well as the diesel Audi TT there's another new arrival in the coupe and roadster line-up.

The TTS is the quickest TT of the current range, boasting 272PS from its turbocharged 2.0-litre engine. Yet Audi is making the bold claim that it is the most powerful, fastest and also greenest car in its class. Thanks to tuning the 2.0-litre engine rather than fitting a more powerful one, Audi has managed 191g/km of CO2 and a claimed 35.5mpg, better than the BMW Z4 Coupe.

It certainly feels very quick, and good for the claimed 5.4sec dash to 62mph, and at £33,390 for the manual coupe it's ultra-competitive on pricing. Residual values of more than 50% put the cost per mile at 66.4p for what is a desirable perk car.

Verdict: Very quick and currently the ultimate TT, but emissions comfortably under 200g/km offer a compelling business case versus its sports car rivals
