The Outlander spawned Citroen's C-crosser and Peugeot's 4007, and is seen by many to be the best looking of the three. But it's always been let down by an old-tech diesel engine while its French cousins had the much better 2.2 HDI.
That's all changed now as Peugeot and Citroen have handed Mitsubishi its 154PS diesel engine, which is undoubtedly more refined and powerful than the 2.0-litre VW-sourced engine the car was launched with last year. But it's still pretty noisy and the emissions and economy figures are significantly worse.
Then there's the £26,999 P11D figure, which is expensive, while the interior quality and refinement aren't good enough to justify the 35.9 pence per mile figure, although, admittedly, healthier depreciation still leaves the Mitsu in front of its French rivals.
