With £85 fill-ups now the norm I've been trying to eke out extra mileage by applying some of the principles learnt on a recent eco driving exercise.
One gem from the instructor I wasn't fully aware of before is that better mpg is achieved having the windows down in hot weather rather than having active aircon.
With the blower duly switched off (unless it gets really hot), changing up to top gear as soon as possible (after 1500 revs on this diesel) and coasting where I can, I've nudged the average urban mpg to 35.7 from a lowly 34.9 previously. [Wow! - ed]
