Peugeot 407 Coupe 2.0 HDI 136 Sport: One Minute Test Drive

Date: 22 February 2008   |   Author:

Category: Sports
Prices: £19-530-£24,820
Key rival: BMW 3-series coupe

What's new: Peugeot has fitted a smaller diesel to its 407 Coupe, using the 136PS 2.0-litre unit from various other models to create an interesting new temptation for business drivers.

Excellent: The 407 Coupe looks like a lot of car for a shade under £20,000. A similar BMW?320d Coupe would be setting you back another £7000 or so.

Good: A cost per mile figure of 32.4 is more than reasonable, and emissions of 156g/km means good news for drivers' wallets. The average 47.8mpg belies the sporting styling.

Average: The looks have attracted a little criticism compared with the sexy 406 Coupe predecessor, and it's no BMW to drive, though it's a comfortable cruiser.

Poor: Coupes are all about the being seen, and despite the cash advantages, some drivers will still baulk at the Peugeot's comparative lack of badge prestige.

Verdict: Probably the pick of Peugeot's current range - a good, frugal engine in a comfortable cruiser.
