The start point for the best source of fleet information

Renault Grand Modus 1.5dCi Dynamique: Test Drive

Date: 11 September 2008   |   Author: Tom Webster

Category: Mini-MPV
P11d price: £12,880
Key rival: Nissan Note

The 1.5dCi engine appears in several other cars in the Renault range, but it could have been built for the Grand Modus.

It's not quick, 0-62mph takes 13.4secs and it only hits 106mph, but the Mini-MPV doesn't feel like it should be hurried anyway with its high seating position, sliding rear seats and copious cubby holes.

Combined economy of 62.8mpg and CO2 of 119g/km are the more important stats. But given the much larger Laguna emits 130g/km with the same engine, it could perhaps do better. This all means the Grand Modus is cheap to run, and with a £12,880 P11D, cheap to buy. Sadly, the quality of some of the interior plastics shows where savings have been made.

Most importantly, with the little Renault predicted to be worth only 33% of its value in three years' time, whole-life costs are an only average 32.8ppm.

Verdict: Practical, and well powered but future values may be prohibitive
