Audi's A5 range has already proved popular in the corporate arena, starting 2009 with a BusinessCar award for best sporting model and placing 68th in the top 100 fleet models of 2008, but it's about to get even more popular with the introduction of a cabriolet version.

Audi has branded its upper medium soft-top A5 this time around, and it replaces the outgoing A4 cabrio, which achieved sales of 2295 units in the company car sector despite a replacement looming.

On sale from June, the new model will account for 40% of A5 sales in a full year - 5000 against 7500 coupes - and around 40% of those will go into the corporate marketplace.

The A5 is aimed squarely at BMW's 3-series convertible, and although the latter has a folding metal roof, Audi doesn't see its new model's fabric version as a handicap. In fact, the company was keen to point out the advantages, which include boot space at 300 litres with the roof down compared to BMW's 90, thanks to the soft roof being easier to package.
