Reactions towards the Kia Soul's chunky looks have veered from the positive to the appalled.
Either way, Kia has succeeded in making a car that turns heads, something no other supermini-MPV manages to do.
The Soul doesn't suffer from the body roll that might be expected of a taller car with a high ride-height, and the 128PS diesel is strongly competent without being overly nippy.
Meanwhile CO2 of 137g/km is okay, but the range will be greatly enhanced by the expected up-coming sub-120g/km smaller diesel.
Where the Soul lacks compared to its Nissan Note and Renault Modus contemporaries, however, is in the practicality stakes. A few more hidey-holes and storage spaces would not intrude on the cabin much and would help the car's all-round ability.
