It's only been six weeks since we last wrote about our Volvo XC60, but in that time the mileage has leapt nearly 3000 miles to 4057.

The XC60 is now doing what Volvos do best - carrying stuff long distances in perfect comfort, including BusinessCar awards to winners in Coventry (Manheim), Birmingham (Autolease), and Luton (Vauxhall) and a disassembled kids' climbing frame following an intensive Ebay session.

After our first 1000 miles running the car in our early impressions were that the 2.4 diesel was still tight. But now we're well past that the engine feels freer revving, although there is still a noticeable amount of turbo lag that can make nipping into gaps on a roundabout a less than smooth affair.

The one thing that's not changed much about the engine's performance is the fuel consumption. On the one hand the average fuel figure is pretty close to the official 37.7mpg at 32.1mpg, nut on the other hand, no matter how we drive (either 'enthusiastically' or in full eco-mindset) we can't get below 30mpg or much above 34mpg.

However, having recently checked the tyre pressures for the first time (I know we should have looked earlier), I discovered there are regular and 'Eco' pressure settings, so I've adjusted them to eco to see if it makes a difference.

We'll report back in another few weeks.
