The mid-life facelift for the Skoda Octavia has seen some gains and some losses for the Czech anti-brand's most sensible fleet model.
It's subjective, but the styling tweaks to the front end give the car a softer and fussier look, even though it brings the Octavia into line with its bigger sister the Superb. The only other minus is the absence of an aux socket on what is now the SE model.
We drove the five-door 140PS 2.0-litre TDI manual, to which KwikCarCost gives a 39.0ppm cost. The diesel is as it ever was: economical and powerful, and noisy on cold start and acceleration but quiet on the motorway. The excellent ride comfort and body control remain.
The biggest gain is in the interior, where the previously impressive quality has been refined further with simpler and clearer controls made of even better quality materials. The result is one of the most sensible choices in the sector.
