What's New: Having tried Toyota's new supermini-MPV in diesel form earlier in the year, we've now got our hands on the lower-emitting petrol version, complete with stop-start technology that brings it down to 129g/km.
Excellent: It certainly looks the part, with a rugged faux-mini off-roader complexion making it appear more macho than some of the other recent new arrivals in the sector.
Good: Toyota's reputation for build quality has helped the Urban Cruiser to an impressive 45.1% predicted retained value, helping it to a cost per mile figure of 33.0p per mile.
Average: Though the cost per mile figure is good, it would be better if the Urban Cruiser didn't appear quite expensive to start with, coming it at four figures more than rivals with this, the only petrol model, having a P11D of more than £14,000.
Poor: The engine feels even less powerful than the 100PS quoted, and struggles to pick up the pace, especially around town. The instrument cluster is also not as clear and well laid-out as rivals.
Verdict: The Urban Cruiser is appealing on first sight and stacks up well on cost per mile, but underpowered for long-distance work and not cheap to buy.
