The alarm can be armed via the door handle button or the keyfob, but either way, it still sounds randomly

P11D price: £22,970
Key rival: Vauxhall Zafira

The Qashqai+2 has developed an intermittent electrical fault.

After exiting and locking the car, using either the key fob or keyless entry button, the alarm occasionally sets itself off few moments later.

To fix the problem, we contacted Motorline in Dartford, Kent, whose receptionist said the service department was busy but that she would get someone to call. Admittedly I phoned 10 minutes before the end of the working week, but that shouldn't excuse the fact that I had to call again more than a week later as I hadn't heard back. This time it was the Tuesday before Christmas, and I was immediately put through to the service department who booked m in for the following day.

There were no courtesy cars available as the booking was short notice, but Motorline did get a friendly driver to drop me at the office (and back again later). They also rang to quiz me more about the nature of the problem as they couldn't replicate it, and offered to keep the car overnight. However, I needed it to get home, so the problem continued.

Motorline later wrote asking if I?would recommend the dealership. The answer to the question? Despite the false start, a resounding 'yes'.
