When we ordered our 520d we weren't sure about the optional auto gearbox because we thought is might rob performance over the manual and also harm the CO2, plus it added £1490 to the price.More than 5000 miles in and we're converts. The 'box is smooth and takes all the hassle out of the commute, it still comes in below 160g/km for CO2 and if we put a bit of eco-effort in we achieve good mpg. And if we want to get going you can manually select by nudging the lever to the left and pushing or pulling to move through the gears.
