Porsche Cayenne S Hybrid 3.0 auto: One Minute Test Drive Review

Date: 04 November 2010   |   Author: Rachel Burgess

Category: 4x4
P11D price: £57,609
Key rival: BMW X5

What's new: Porsche has dipped its feet in the environmentally friendly pool with the Cayenne S hybrid, which now accounts for around 15% of the model's volume.

Excellent: With emissions of 193g/km CO2, this is the greenest model across the brand's portfolio. This means road tax of £235 - a bargain by Porsche's standard. The new Cayenne is also a lot more subtly and classily styled than its predecessor.

Good: The hybrid tech doesn't take the edge off the performance: the 3.0-litre V6 333hp does 0-62mph in 6.5secs and has a top speed of 150mph. The main difference is the car is quiet when turned on.

Average: Porsche extras cost the earth. On top of the £57,609 list price, the car as tested had £11,000 worth of options including 19-inch alloys (£951), leather interior (£2131) and air suspension (£2330).

Poor: The Cayenne diesel costs £13,000 less than the S hybrid, yet is just a smidgen above in emissions at 195g/km. Yes, you lose 1.3secs on 0-62mph but you get better fuel consumption - 38.2mpg over 34.4mpg.

Verdict: A good idea but the diesel option is the safer bet.
