Saab 9-5 Aero 2.0T manual: Test Drive Review

Having sampled the new 9-5 in diesel form recently, we've also now been given the opportunity to try the 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol, which Saab said was actually the first fleet order the firm received for its new executive saloon.

The figures are a little challenging for those looking to guard the corporate bank account, with a P11D of more than £30,000, emissions of 194g/km and an average fuel figure of 33.6mpg. The engine is potent enough without being dramatic or maybe feeling like 220hp, and the ride is certainly angled towards hard rather than comfortable.

The car looks stylish, with a easily-recognisable Saab nose and dramatic and adventurous rear. The rounded looks offer something interesting in a segment dominated by more angled German offerings.

There are two versions of the 9-5 being launched later this year, and both should be worth a look. The excellent TTiD engine joins the range by October, at the same time as the 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol version. Both are good in other models, and could be the picks of the new 9-5 range.
