Toyota Yaris 1.3 TR 5dr: Test Drive Review

Date: 23 July 2010   |   Author:

Category: Supermini
P11D price: £12,405
Key rival: Mazda 2

Toyota's revised Yaris supermini range now offers an entire line-up at under 121g/km, with the 1.3 petrol engine driven here achieving 120g/km and 55.4mpg, while the 1.0 petrol manages 118g/km and 56.5mpg, and the 1.4 diesel 109g/km and 68.9mpg.

The small Toyota has been facelifted, with the TR specification, which accounts for 80% of sales, benefiting from a range of minor tweaks both inside and out, including new alloys and darkened headlamp glass. Toyota claims the 1.3 Yaris is more powerful yet more efficient than its main rivals including the Ford Fiesta and VW Polo, thanks to the firm's Optimal Drive work on lowering emissions.

The Yaris is predictably at its best in urban situations, with its great turning circle, light steering and decent visibility, but at higher speeds it can be affected by sidewinds and isn't at its most comfortable.

But it's still a well-built and well-priced supermini, with a 33.6p per mile figure, that also now benefits from Toyota's five-year, 100,000-mile manufacturer warranty.
