Vauxhall Insignia 2.0 CDTi SE 4x4: Test Drive Review

Key rival: Skoda Octavia Scout

Vauxhall has addressed a significant BusinessCar criticism of its Insignia with big improvements to the refinement levels on the new model-year version. Refinement is still far from class-leading, but is at least no longer a major issue with the engineering changes.

The model-year upgrade also sees a new four-wheel drive diesel join the range, opening up a new line of opportunity for Vauxhall as there are very few volume models available with all-wheel drive.

The bad news is that the 4x4 system adds around £3000 to the car's cost, and also tips the Insignia over the 160g/km capital allowance point at 164g/km for the Sports Tourer and 1g/km less for the hatchback. It also makes a 7.8p difference to the cost per mile figure, now at 68.9p, thanks to the higher price, lower efficiency and poorer residual value.
