Mini One D hatch 1.6 90hp 3dr: Test Drive Review

Date: 25 May 2011

Category: Supermini
P11D price: £14,425
Key rival: Fiat 500

The Mini One D hatch is the jewel in the brand's CO2 crown, with the iconic car now available with 99g/km emissions and official figures of 74.3mpg.

The move is overdue for the brand with a competitive host of small cars falling into the sought-after sub-100g/km category including the Vauxhall Corsa, VW Polo and Ford Fiesta.

Introduced last year, it is, at 90hp, the less powerful sibling of the Cooper D, which is also sub-100g/km but offers 112hp, making it 1.7 seconds faster at 9.7 seconds. But Mini enthusiasts won't be disappointed with this practical green version; it's more nippy than you'd expect for a 90hp 1.6 diesel and has the fun factor the Mini is so well known for.

Costing £14,425 and with 13% benefit-in-kind tax, 20% taxpayers will pay £31 per month - not bad for a stylish small car that will appeal to savvy fleet managers too.
