Nissan Juke: One Minute Test Drive

What's new: Nissan effectively forged a new segment with the hatchback-cum-off-roader Qashqai, and it's now trying to do the same in the supermini sector with the new Juke, driven here in 117hp 1.6 petrol form.
Excellent: The unconventional looks, particularly at the front, is either, like Marmite, tasty or disagreeable depending on your views on styling, and so will either draw in or frighten away prospective drivers.
Good: The gearshift is as good as we've driven in quite some time, while standard kit on this £14,515 model includes Bluetooth, cruise control, reversing camera, rear privacy glass and 17-inch alloys.
Average: The interior is as striking as the exterior, and could be described as either minimalist or unique, depending on standpoint. A 36.2% predicted RV is OK, without matching the Qashqai's early success.
Poor: A Nissan bugbear is its inability to address the CO2 issue, and this new 1.6 only manages 147g/km.?The 251-litre boot is also smaller than the Micra.
Verdict: The divisive looks will decide the Juke's fate. Lower CO2 would help, but it's a fun model that will appeal to those wanting more than a standard supermini.
