Hyundai's ix35 crossover is playing its part in elevating public perception of the previously budget brand. This was illustrated by an intense quizzing from a Ford Kuga owner at my local fuel pumps.
Having opted for an all-wheel drive 2.0-litre diesel variant, with a 40mpg average on a good day, the Ford owner conceded that the extra 10mpg averaged by our 1.7-litre diesel two-wheel drive Hyundai and a five-year warranty would bring it into his reckoning. He also noted the ix35 had a fair bit more stowage capacity - and that's despite a full-size alloy compromising the Hyundai's boot space.
Hyundai ix35 1.7 CRDi 2WD Prem. | Mileage | 590 | Claimed combined consumption | 48.7 mpg | Our average consumption | 49.5mpg | Forecast CPM | 51.3p | Actual CPM | 52.3p | Positive | Well-specced new wave Hyundai | Negative | Brand elevation comes at a price |
