Reversing sensors, ultra-light low-speed steering and a rear view camera make parallel parking in our slab-sided Hyundai ix35 crossover relatively stress free.
However, a set of beeping forward sensors would help when docking the high prow, not that contact has been made. yet. Tight urban manoeuvres such as parking are possible with one or two fingers, but the downside is a lack of steering feel and precision when pressing on along country roads.
Meanwhile, the ghost in the machine, which intermittently illuminates the instrumental panel, warning lights and all, in full switch-on 'welcome' mode, has been busted. Recognised by Hyundai's technical gurus as a "software bug", the electronic gremlin has been performing an "uncommanded reboot", which wipes the stored consumption memory's digital slate clean. I await the local dealer's service 'fix' involving a 20-minute instrument cluster replacement operation while Hyundai in South Korea is doubtless reviewing the chipmaker's contract.
