Summer tyre

After enjoying the superb grip in cold, wet and snowy weather for nearly six months due to a set of Continental winter tyres, I decided to swap back to the original summer rubber.

I called my local Kwik-Fit, who'd stored the summer tyres for me, at the start of March and said I'd like them re-fitted at the end of the month. I was assured that only a few days' notice was needed and that I should call back later.

So, with the last week of March approaching I called again and was informed I'd be contacted when the tyres arrived in a few days. A few days passed. Nothing. I called back and was told head office hadn't yet responded.

Almost a week after my original call I was contacted to say the tyres would arrive in eight days - which the branch said they had to fight for as the original quote from HQ was a month and a half. In the end, the tyres turned up two days early. It seems I was unlucky as I've heard of no other delays and Kwik-Fit's official line on the average time for tyres to arrive back is nine days.

The service at Kwik-Fit Bagshot was swift, too. Possibly too swift as the tyre pressure light was on when they handed the car back. A quick pressure check revealed all four tyres to be down 4psi over the recommended figure.

Will I fit winter tyres again? Definitely - even if there's a minor trouble swapping back next spring.
