Audi A5 Cabriolet 3.0 TDI S-line: Test Drive Review

Date: 12 June 2012

Along with the Coupe and Sportback, the A5 Convertible was also subject to Audi's mid-life revisions, which in typical form for the German brand comprised a series of low-key styling tweaks plus a dose of efficiency enhancements.

The lights, bumpers, grille and bonnet have all changed a smidgen and moulded the A5's exterior into line with the rest of Audi's current line-up. LED daytime running lights are also standard on the S-Line model tested here.

Among a number of measures to lower CO2 and boost economy is the addition of the 204hp V6 TDI diesel engine from the A6, which returns an impressive 138g/km when mated to the Multitronic CVT transmission and 54.3mpg.

It's handsome, while the cachet of the badge and appeal of a V6 convertible are undeniable.

The driving experience is uninvolving, though and somehow a large diesel unit seems better suited to estates and saloons.

Verdict: Desirable, but other variants are cheaper and suit the A5 better
