What's new: The Veloster now has the power to match the looks, courtesy of a 186hp turbocharged model. Tweaks to the handling and some minor exterior and trim changes also mark it out from the standard version.
Excellent: The P11D of £21,791 seems reasonable and for that you get kit such as leather seats, satnav, reverse parking aid and an eight-speaker sound system.
Good: The standard Veloster is slow and uninteresting to drive, but the Turbo offers sharper steering, a 0-62mph time of 8.4 sec and a near complete lack of body roll, as well as an official 40.9mpg, 157g/km and 57.6ppm.
Average: The single rear door configuration (there is only one, on the passenger's side) is unusual and there's little space for rear passengers. The ride is a little bumpy.
Poor: It's a good job that rear parking sensors and a reversing camera are standard, because the view out of the rear window is extremely limited.
Verdict: The Turbo is far superior to the standard Veloster in most respects and it's still a lot of vehicle for the money.
