Nissan Micra 1.2: One Minute Test Drive Review

Date: 15 March 2012   |   Author: Jack Carfrae

What's new: A new 1.2-litre supercharged engine has been added to the existing Micra range. It offers the performance of a larger petrol unit with CO2 of 99g/km and economy of 65.7mpg.

Excellent: The new engine is superb and makes up for the Micra's other shortcomings. It requires some encouragement but it's surprisingly potent and even performs reasonably well at motorway speeds.

Good: As well as impressing for its performance, the DIG-S petrol engine offers great efficiency figures, making for a competitive 35.1p per mile running costs.

Average: A P11D of £13,595 isn't exactly cheap, even for the top-spec Tekna, and the inside could be described as old-fashioned and cheap, compared to the improvements witnessed on rival models.

Poor: Apart from the new engine, pretty much everything else about the Micra is below par. It smacks of budget production and is well behind the class best.

Verdict: The new engine is great for both its performance and low running costs, but the car is bettered by most rivals in just about every other way.

Verdict
