Rear

The new 3-series isn't the most revolutionary design when compared with its predecessor, as I was observing when I parked behind a previous generation model.

Yes, the rear lights are shaped differently and more reminiscent of the new 5-series, but in isolation it's not always easy to spot the new car from the rear. The front is an entirely different story thanks to the slimmer headlights and grille that give a much meaner, muscled and aggressive view.

The car is also a bigger step forward on the inside than initially appears. I'm still exploring the Drive Performance settings, but mainly just leave it on the Eco Pro mode, which is helping keep my average fuel consumption nearing 60mpg so far despite a range of driving environments. The comfort and sport settings will, of course, get a work-out in time, but the Eco Pro doesn't feel like it's limiting driving enjoyment so will probably remain dominant as I continue my pursuit of achieving great fuel economy. I am, though, likely to switch off the economy tips, that basically consist of telling me to slow down as soon as I pass 50mph.
