Shopping

Sometimes I wish hatchbacks were seen as more prestigious than saloons. Although the 320d's boot will take a big shopping trip more comfortably than my credit card, the 480 litres is both smaller and the darker reaches less easily accessed than a less premium full tailgate. While a Vauxhall Insignia only boasts 20 litres more space, it feels much bigger because you can lean into it, rather than ducking through the not-quite-letterbox gap created when you lift the BMW's boot. The 320d's boot space at least matches its key rivals, but a bit more practicality would be valued.
