Our Fleet Test Drive: Hyundai i40 Tourer- 10th report

Following our swap from an i40 Tourer to an equivalent saloon model, it seemed fitting to compare the two on a costs basis.
Running a comparison of the two on our KwikCarcost database revealed that there's actually very little in it. The biggest disparity is in the P11D values, which weigh in at £21,240 for the saloon and £22,490 for the Tourer. There's virtually nothing in the RVs at 33.3% and 33.7% respectively, while cost per mile works out at 49.2p and 50.9p - an equally paltry amount.
The reality of it is that you're looking at an extra £1250 for the estate, but beyond that all the
other running costs are nigh on identical. Hyundai claims identical emissions and economy for the pair, so whether there's any disparity on those figures in real-world driving remains to be seen.
With the running costs as close as they are, there's an argument either way for the larger model. Why pay extra when you can have the same thing for less? Or should you spend a modest amount extra and get more car for your money?
