Our Fleet Test Drive: Peugeot 508 SW - 11th Report

Scotland

A few weeks back I embarked on a (marginally) more scientific approach to explore the fuel efficiency of the 2.0-litre HDI engine in my long-term 508. Rather than just fill the car when it was empty, which was about every 700-800 miles thanks to decent fuel figures and a massive diesel tank, I switched to filling more frequently to narrow-down the journey mpg.

I was instantly rewarded with a figure above 60mpg (60.7 to be precise) after a 250-mile steady 70mph motorway run. I've also seen a 55mpg for a Newcastle to Inverness trip when the car was fully loaded with family and luggage. But more about that in the next report.
