Our Fleet Test Drive: Peugeot 508 SW - 12th Report

Boot full

In an attempt to avoid the constant rain we'd been having in the South-East ever since the hosepipe ban was introduced, I pointed the Peugeot 508 SW at the north-west coast of Scotland for a week away.

As it was a week's self-catering in a part of the UK with no ready access to, well, pretty much anything, it means taking everything you need with you - a good test of any estate car. So, not only did I pack clothing for a family of four (and it being Scotland in April that means all weathers must be expected), but the boot also had to hold a week's food (and booze) shopping.

The 508 took on the job admirably. Unlike the Skoda Superb Greenline, the car I last used to tackle the job, the Peugeot's suspension didn't look worryingly low with a full load on board. And the 2.0-litre diesel also did a fantastic job of the hills north of the border despite the extra weight on board. I even saw some good fuel figures too, with a couple of the motorway hauls returning mpg stats in the mid-50s.

This is the kind of thing that makes you glad of having the 508 - it's comfortable, economic and roomy, all of which go a long way to making any holiday begin stress-free.
