Toyota Yaris Hybrid T-Spirit: One Minute Test Drive Review

Date: 29 October 2012   |   Author: Jack Carfrae

Yaris
Price: £17,590

What's new: Hooking up a hybrid system to the Yaris's 1.5-litre petrol engine has rendered it the cleanest supermini around with lows of 79g/km from the T3 and T4 models and 85g/km from the top-spec T-Spirit.

Excellent: Even with liberal motorway use the Yaris's exceptional fuel economy is still obvious. As bold a claim though 76.3mpg from the T-Spirit model seems, it's incredibly cheap to run by any standards.

Good: Toyota's five-year, 100,000-mile warranty and reputation for impenetrable reliability are big draws.

Average: The Yaris has never been renowned for its scintillating driving experience and the hybrid isn't much different.

Poor: Toyota has been overtaken by budget Korean rivals in the interior quality stakes. The dash and switchgear seem cheap and nasty in comparison to what many other superminis now offer.

Verdict: You'll pay more on the P11D, but for company drivers who don't live on the motorway, the Yaris hybrid has the best emissions and economy in
