Volvo V60 D2 SE Lux Powershift: Test Drive Review

Ever keen to maintain its favour with the corporate market, Volvo has introduced an automatic version of the V60 estate in its cleanest Driv-e guise and simultaneously brought emissions down to the same level as those of the manual variant.
That's no mean feat given how clean the existing version was already - 119g/km and 62.8mpg is exceptional for a large estate - and the fact that conventional automatics usually hamper a car's fuel economy.
The Powershift automatic gearbox, nabbed from former parent Ford's parts bin, is suitably smooth and suits the Volvo's comfortable nature. All the other usual V60 attributes remain: the styling is handsome and eye-catching, while the interior is well built, spacious and classy. It isn't riveting to drive but refinement and comfort are strong enough to leave rivals from BMW and Audi concerned.
The only real snag is the power, which doesn't seem quite sufficient enough for a car of this size. Such a deficit is to be expected for as clean an estate as this, especially considering the fact that it only has a 1.6-litre diesel engine, but drivers will find themselves egging the V60 on from low revs or standstill, such is its lack of shove.
