Audi A6 BiTDI SE auto: One Minute Test Drive Review

Date: 11 January 2013   |   Author:

P11D: £44,155

What's new: Audi has introduced its most powerful ever six-cylinder diesel to the A6 and A7 ranges, with the 313hp 3.0 TDI capable of 0-62mph in just 5.1 seconds and a top speed limited to 155mph.

Excellent: Sitting above the 245hp diesel, the new engine's two-stage turbocharger offers incredibly impressive performance and makes the A6 truly a match for BMW's excellent 535d.

Good: As well as the performance, the BiTDI makes a pleasingly un-diesel-like noise that has more in common with performance machinery. Audi's normal interior quality and comfort also applies here.

Average: The extra power comes at a hefty price. Although it's within £150 of the equivalent BMW, the Bi-turbo A6 costs over £4500 more than the 245hp diesel, which itself is an appealing option.

Poor: There's a huge 27g/km gap from the A6 to BMW's 535d, and at 169g/km the BiTDI's emissions look a little prohibitive. A sub-30% Audi RV is also unusual.

Verdict: Wonderful engine for performance, but emissions and residual value harm the business case significantly, leaving the cost per mile at over £1.

Verdict

Wonderful engine for performance, but emissions and residual value harm the business case significantly, leaving the cost per mile at over £1.
