Jaguar XJ: Test Drive Review

Jaguar made a series of updates to its luxury XJ model last summer and BusinessCar has now been able to get behind the wheel.
The British brand added a new eight-speed automatic transmission, coupled to a stop/start system, which have collectively slashed emissions for the best-selling 3.0-litre V6 diesel version to 159g/km.
That's less of a benchmark now that the 160g/km writing-down allowance is no more, but it's still extremely impressive for a car of the Jag's size, status and performance (it has 275hp and will hit 62mph in 6.4 seconds).
Revisions have also been made to the infotainment system, including standard fitment of DAB radio across the range, which won't do the car's long-term residual values any harm, and the option of a plush Meridian audio system.
The differences may be small but they're all worthwhile, particularly for likely punters such as private hire businesses. The XJ remains as lovely an all-round car as ever too: rapid and refined and with a gorgeous cabin.
Only the ride lets it down, which isn't quite up to what you would expect for such a vehicle, although an optional comfort suspension pack is yet another of the recent changes and improves matters.
