Kia Sorento 2.2 CRDI KX-2 Satnav: Test Drive Review

Date: 11 December 2013

P11D: £29,965

The new Kia Sorento sits at the top of the Korean manufacturer's model line-up as its large, seven-seat SUV.

It's a huge thing, with heaps of space, and is well suited to the types of businesses that rely on big, sturdy 4x4s but need an affordable price tag. The cabin is reasonable, but obviously don't expect premium levels of quality, while the 194hp 2.2-litre diesel engine delivers a respectable 47.9mpg and 155g/km.

The market for budget, seven-seat SUVs isn't exactly burgeoning, so the Kia is going up against the Hyundai Santa Fe on which it's based, along with the Chevrolet Captiva and Mitsubishi Outlander. On the costs front, the Sorento records 67.5ppm - streets ahead of a near like-for-like Chevy and roughly on par with a Santa Fe, but just bested by the Mitsubishi, which, in generous GX4 spec, records 66.6ppm.

Verdict

A sound budget 4x4 with heaps of space.
7/10
