Porsche Boxster 2.7: Test Drive Review

Date: 12 September 2013

P11D: £37,589

Granted, the Porsche Boxster isn't going to be high on most fleets' radars, but for senior management or business owners looking for something special, it's hard to beat.

The German firm recently updated its smallest and most affordable sports car, and the entry-level 2.7-litre manual version tested here is every bit as desirable as the more extravagant 3.4 S model. The handling is about as good as you can get for less than £40,000, while the six-speed manual gearbox is so precise and satisfying in its action that it seems a disgrace that the optional PDK automatic is more popular.

Sharper looks that differentiate it from its evergreen big brother the 911, plus a series of power and efficiency improvements, leave the basic Boxster with 265hp, 0-62mph in 5.8 seconds, 192g/km (180g/km with the PDK 'box) and 34.4mpg. Few, if any other performance cars come close in this price range.

Verdict

Not a big fleet seller but utterly superb in every other way.
9/10
