Porsche Cayenne S Diesel: One Minute Test Drive Review

What's new: Porsche has added an S model to the Cayenne off-roader's diesel range, powered by a 382hp 4.2-litre V8 twin-turbo engine. It joins the 245hp 3.0-litre diesel previously offered.

Excellent: The car's residual value is a very impressive 47.4%, but the smaller diesel is a monumental 53.2%, while the performance is as you'd expect from a near-400hp vehicle, completing 0-62mph in 5.7 seconds.

Good: Porsches aren't renowned for being well-specified, but the kit isn't bad: climate control, leather, cruise, front and rear parking sensors and powered seats all come with the near-£60,000 Cayenne S. As well as the speed, it also handles well for a car of this bulk.

Average: While it's very fast, and the figures impress in context, 218g/km and 34.0mpg don't equate to a car that's cheap to run.

Poor: The looks are still what could generously be described as challenging.

Verdict: An epically rapid and powerful large off-roader with an excellent residual value and reasonable running costs given the performance, and plenty of interior space and practicality. A grown-up performance car.
