Renault Scenic XMOD 1.2 TCe 115 Dyn. TomTom: One Minute Test Drive Review

What's new: While revising its mini-MPV Scenic, Renault has also added a faux-off-road XMOD version with rugged looks, cladding and the manufacturer's Grip Xtend system designed to help traction off-road.

Excellent: Renault is charging the same for the XMOD as it is for the standard Scenic mini-MPV despite the enhanced looks and grip-control system.

Good: Equipment levels are decent, especially on this Dynamique TomTom trim, the higher of the two on offer. It's also worth looking at the £1500 Bose+ option pack that brings a wealth of extra kit.

Average: The 115hp 1.2 TCe petrol engine isn't the strongest in what is a fairly large and weighty car. The diesels also make much more sense from a running-cost perspective.

Poor: The residual values on this 1.2 petrol version are pretty prohibitive at just 24.4%, surprisingly 0.8 percentage points down on the standard Scenic.

Verdict: The XMOD version looks good, and aside from slightly poorer residual values would seem to be the logical choice over the standard Scenic.
