Renault Zoe Dynamique Intens: One Minute Test Drive Review

Date: 26 September 2013   |   Author:

P11D: £19,988

What's new: Renault's Zoe electric supermini is the firm's fourth in a four-pronged electric vehicle attack, alongside the Kangoo van, Fluence and Twizy.

Excellent: Priced from £18,388 before the Government's £5000 grant, plus the cost of leasing the battery, the Zoe is the most affordable electric vehicle yet to launch. It also looks good, and is as practical as its conventionally powered Clio sibling.

Good: To drive and live with, the Zoe is pretty normal, and the £1600 upgrade to either Zen or Intens spec level is worth it for the extra equipment that brings. There is, though, a 2.7p per mile increase for it, and the RV isn't quite as strong as on the base model.

Average: The official 130-mile range plunges rapidly if you're driving at higher speed - we were getting a little over half of that as a reliable distance.

Poor: According to Renault, you have to plug the Zoe into a charging point rather than using a three-pin socket, which could impact on usability in some circumstances.

Verdict: If EVs can work in your fleet then the Zoe is about as cost-effective and attractive as they get.
