Ssangyong Korando: Test Drive Review

The four-wheel drive Korando from budget Korean manufacturer Ssanyong comes with a five-year warranty and good rear legroom in its favour - but little else. Figures of 37.7mpg and 199g/km from a mid-size SUV are quite poor these days.
It's unrefined, isn't much cop to drive and feels like a much older car. In short, it really isn't on par with anything from the mainstream manufacturers.
That said, it is still cheap (£22,480), is well specced for the money and at 66.3ppm trumps a 4x4 auto version of Chevrolet's Captiva (although that is also a seven-seater while the Korando has five chairs). But if price is an issue then Dacia's Duster is a much cheaper budget SUV proposition, albeit very basic.
There probably is a market for the Korando - those who need a cheap SUV with a decent towing capacity - but that's about the extent of its appeal in the UK.
