Volkswagen Golf Bluemotion GT: Test Drive Review

VW's Golf Bluemotion GT treads the line between warm hatch and sensible petrol alternative.
The 1.4-litre TSI engine produces 140hp, which makes it really quite swift - good for 0-62mph in 8.0 seconds and a top speed of 137mph. At the same time it achieves an official 60.1mpg and emits only 110g/km, so it's efficient given the performance and avoids the 3% diesel BIK levy.
At £24,320, it isn't the cheapest Golf, nor is it the most economical. Those concerned with top mpg figures or lower P11D values would be better off waiting for the forthcoming Bluemotion diesel or looking further down the range.
In every other respect it's as good an all-rounder as the other Golfs we've tested: well built, spacious and comfortable with the strong residuals and impenetrable reputation that always come with VW's well-established lower medium stalwart.
