Volvo XC60 D5 SE Lux Nav Geartronic: Test Drive Review
Date:
02 December 2013
P11D:
£39,890
Like its S60 and V60 siblings, the XC60 recently received a mid-life refresh, subtly modifying the car inside and out, including a new bonnet and headlamps, removal of some of the chrome detailing, and the addition of new wood inlays in the cabin. Meanwhile, the Corner Traction Control safety system is now standard and there are several changes to the technology offered as optional extras.
The manual versions of both this 215hp top-spec D5 and the 163hp D4 engines drop by 10g/km of CO2 to just 139g/km, although the automatic transmission fitted to our test car leaves the XC60 D5 at a prohibitive 169g/km. Good though the auto 'box is, and as desirable as an automatic is in this class of car, that's just too big a leap.
But the XC60's slight change of styling does a decent job of refreshing an appealing and practical, quality small off-roader.

Verdict
Great small 4x4, but D5 struggles on CO2 until new engine arrives.
