The start point for the best source of fleet information

BMW 435i M-sport Test Drive Review

Date: 01 October 2014

BMW's range-topping version of the new 4-series is this 435i, complete with eight-speed automatic transmission.

The 300hp model may not be the typical fleet motorway-muncher, but these performance top-end perk cars are getting more and more sensible, at least in emissions terms.

The performance that brings a 5.1-second acceleration time from 0-62mph comes with
a 172g/km tag in automatic form - or an extra 17g/km for the manual model that's £1360 cheaper - which means a 38.2mpg official figure.

The performance, interior quality and driver enjoyment are all first class, and the car is both incredibly rapid and a practical all-rounder. It beats the Audi S5 for running costs and efficiency too, but it's also worth keeping in mind the two-seat coupe Porsche Cayman that offers similar performance is a touch cheaper, and is 4.4p per mile less than the BMW, thanks to a residual value of 48.6%, compared with 435i's 34.3%.

Verdict

Very rapid and fairly practical, but efficiency predictably suffers
7/10
