Fiat 500 Test Drive Review

It's a tribute to the longevity of its 2008 rebirth that the Fiat 500 has stayed top of the UK city car sales charts without a single facelift. But while the exterior still looks remarkably fresh, technology has moved on and Fiat has made a few tweaks for the 2014 model year version.
The biggest news is a new 105hp 0.9 Twin Air petrol engine (in addition to the 69hp 1.2, 85hp 0.9 Twin Air and 95hp 1.3 diesel). The extra 20hp it offers helps the car get to 62mph in 10.0 seconds (a second quicker than the 85hp 0.9) and still offers 67.3mpg and 99g/km (versus 70.6mpg and 92g/km for the 85hp 0.9).
There's also a Sport button, and while it wasn't immediately apparent what real difference it made, in a 940kg car, the power boost alone gives noticeably more shove without resorting to sporty Abarth versions.
Inside, a large digital driver dial has been added, as have smart leather seat options, but there's still no integrated satnav, and the centre stack, dashboard and door shoulders are showing their age, with too much flimsy, plasticky and hollow-sounding surfaces.
