Land Rover Discovery 4 SDV6 HSE: Test Drive Review

Date: 28 May 2014

Land Rover has updated its large SUV, the Discovery, for 2014. Of greatest note is CO2 dropping from 230g/km to 213g/km and official economy rising from 32.1mpg to 35.3mpg.

Granted, it's no VW Golf Bluemotion, but those with privileged choice lists will also appreciate the light facelift, which comprises a new grille, front bumper, LED daytime running lights and new badging.

A series of new safety-themed driver aids are also available, including blind spot monitors, reverse traffic detection and T-junction cameras.

Also new, and inherited from Range Rovers, is Wade Sensing, which uses sensors in the door mirrors to create a digital image on the infotainment screen to illustrate the depth of water the car is travelling through off-road.

Elsewhere, it's business as usual and the Discovery remains as plush, robust and desirable a large 4x4 as ever. It isn't cheap at £53,075, but that is not likely to deter those with the allowance to take the plunge

Verdict

Remains among the most desirable of large SUVs
