Mini One D One Minute Test

Mini has added an entry level One version of its new hatchback, initially in three-door form before the five-door follows shortly. The Mini One comes in 1.2 petrol and, driven here, 1.5 diesel form.
Excellent
The 1.5-litre diesel is a little cracker of an engine, offering significantly more performance than the modest 95hp suggests. Emissions of 89g/km put the model well within the lowest BIK boundary too.
Good
The cost per mile figure is great, making the Mini cheaper to run than an equivalent Ford Fiesta 3dr. Mini residuals remain typically epic for the entry model, which comes in with 43.8%.
Average
Speccing a Mini is never quite as straightforward as its rivals thanks to the culture of option packs, and the 108g/km petrol One model is £1200 cheaper and slightly more powerful than the diesel.
Poor
Though better than its predecessor, the three-door Mini is still compromised in terms of packaging versus its main rivals.
Verdict
A great little car in terms of drivability, emissions, running costs and premium brand. A cracking
all-rounder that defies its entry level status.
